Designing a great website that works! (Part 4)

Though fairly short, in this post I discuss the most important part of your website – ‘Content’.

Before I start though here is the most important tip, bar nothing that you must do for your business to be successful. If you remember nothing else in this series of posts remember this tip, it is the one thing that will make you a lot of money if you implement it.

Gain the best possible insight into your customers wants, needs and problems so your content can then focus on solving these things for them.

Now for some tips about your website content:-

• With your content try for a simple approach directed at letting the information unfold as easily as possible.

Remember you have full control over your customers journey once they get to your website. When using headlines, subheads, body copy point size, pictures and colours always use them to
assist you in conveying the message you want the reader to get (this is why is it important to always know what you what to achieve before starting your content). Try leaving your
customers feeling better informed and better served at their journey's end. This will
ultimately result in much better sales.

Ensure the copy on your web site reads well and has a sense of fluidity about it. You should
always make sure your words and paragraphs are cohesive and makes sense. If you need to,
use bold subheadings to give the reader a break before moving onto the next paragraph or
topic.

• You should always make it simple for a visitor to contact you either via email and/or phone. Ways to do this can include having an easily identifiable contact link on the navigation menu or your phone number in the top right hand corner of every page. Even though most of your
customers wont contact you straight away, they often do feel at ease when they at least know your contact information, should the need to contact you arise.

• Website content should be updated regularly. Stale websites do not leave a good impression.
For the information to be valuable it should also be well-edited and when using external links use only the best sites with concise descriptions. Typos should also be seen as unacceptable.

• Great websites often share everything they learn and hear (that's relevant of course) with
their users - starting a newsletter or blog is a great way to do this.

• Always remember “Content is king” on the internet and it is the words you use that sells – so
put most of your efforts into this part.

In the next post I will provide tips important for your website presentation.

As always, wishing you every success for your business.
